About

I’m from Bell Block, New Plymouth, New Zealand, and I am travelling to Europe to walk the Camino. There are many reasons why I want to walk the Camino. I have had a number of friends complete it over the years, and it has been inspiring to watch and read about their journey as they walk. But I have faced a number of challenges in the last 7 years, with my wife and best friend, Fiona, receiving the heartbreaking news in March 2019 that she had stage 3 bowel cancer. While things initially looked hopeful with surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy, we had kicked the cancer in the butt. It came back in 2021, and it was inoperable this time in the base of her spine in the sacrum. Long story short she fought the good fight and gave it everything she had. But the cancer ended up taking her life in April 2024. We have 3 kids, and we have journeyed this challenging path as a team. But I felt that I needed the opportunity to spend some time doing something just for me. And of course, some space to process all that has been, and so here we are. I am hoping to write some reflections each day that I walk, but I am not going to be legalistic about it. I am a follower of Jesus a Father and Baptist Pastor in NZ, and I will be reflecting on life, faith and how God speaks to me through this journey. If you are keen to follow along, then you are welcome. You can read about my journey here.
