After I had threaded my blisters I headed out, perhaps hobbled out more accurately to find Ray and Bryce, they were catching up with Irish Mike and his wife Marion. I am Kiwi Mike. They are an older couple who have walked the Camino too many times to remember exactly. They had lots of advice. Then we headed off to find some dinner. Ray hasn’t tried too many different cuisines so we convinced him to try Japanese and have the karaage Chicken he loved it. I had the Katsu Chicken Curry it was pretty good but it did repeat on me a bit at about 3:00am. I was awake for about 1:30 in the middle of the night. It was very warm in our little pods. But the bed was comfortable and it wasn’t a banana. We also decided to visit the Cathedral on the way back to our accommodation it was well worth it.

I made the decision to send my bag ahead via a van service it cost 7 Euros I was some what nervous about the prospect of losing my bag. But decided there was no way I was walking 29kms with my bag and the blisters. This was a very good decision as it was a pretty tough walk. But we made it to Nájera by about 1pm after getting soaked in a heavy down pour that probably lasted a couple of hours and had a very cold wind. We walked about 13.5 kms for breakfast this morning it tastes really good when you have done that apart from the coffee which is all pretty average.

But after checking in finding my pack yes! I was able to have a shower get dry and warm and then we headed out for some food. We had to walk most of the town to find something. But eventually did in a Hotel and I had a yummy roll with Bacon, Egg and Cheese really good. The hostel we are staying in is run by some Colombian’s and we are having Columbian dinner tonight. I am looking forward to that.

Lessons from today you can manage pain it is mind over matter to a certain extent. There is always situations where pain is too much. I learnt that from Fiona she was one tough cookie. But I managed to push through it was painful all day but manageable. Today was the 8th day walking and we have done about 190kms so feeling pretty happy with that. The hostel looks ok. They have those showers where you only get 20 seconds of water if you don’t keep pressing the button. Makes it quite challenging to get washed, what was even more fun was the light turned off if you were to long so trying to get dry in the dark. But I managed to get through. I am probably going to send my bag ahead tomorrow as well as I will not manage until the blisters heal. But good news I managed to purchase my own needle and thread and found that I had some balm that is beeswax and some sort of oil I have been applying it since last night and I think the first one is starting to heal. I think I will have to thread the other one again later after the pharmacy opens. And I can purchase some iodine to sterilise the needle and thread advice from home. The blister on the sole of my right foot hasn’t got any worse after using lambs wool today against the skin. I will do the same tomorrow, we are trying to dry our shoes and other things as best we can at least the rain has stopped.
That is it for me for today hope you are all well.
Ngatai mihi
Mike
